Creating the Next Generation of Social EntrepreneursSm
The GRIOT program promotes cultural consciousness, solidarity and communication between Black American and African communities through the medium of technology.
GRIOT promotes cultural preservation through online video projects in which participants collaborate with their counterparts in other countries on music and film projects. Students pick a common theme and tell their own version of the story, at the end coming together and having discussion.
Schools participating in GRIOT will be assigned a sister-school in another country. Individual students will be given a World Pal to share cultural experiences, through new technology. This interaction will help students understand each other’s culture and heritage. GRIOT will serve as a way to enlighten one another about the ways in which they are different and, more importantly, the similarities they share.
Participants will use the arts: music, fashion, film and photography, to tell a story about their background and history. Communication through art will allow an open learning space where the youth can express their heritage. This is how they tell their story. We all have a GRIOT within. "What's your story?"
